The book summarises the embryological features and apomixis in the family Poaceae. The introductory chapter is followed by microsporangium, micro-sporogenesis and male gametophyte. Details of anther wall development and its structure, microspore formation and pollen development have been dealt with in this chapter. Ovule characters and megasporogenesis have been described in chapter three. Embryo sac development and its structure has been described in the next chapter. Chapter five deals with different aspects of fertilization while chapter six deals with development and structure of endosperm. A detailed account of apomixis in Poaceae has been given in chapter eight. Polyembryony has been described in chapter nine. The last chapter deals with the embryology in relation to taxonomy and phylogeny of Poaceae. Four exhaustive tables have been given where details of each and every species are tabulated. The book running to about 250 pages is supported by 23 plates of line drawings.
