In the West, we often rely on our logic and science, and while that's important, science cannot answer all there is to know in the world. It can measure and it can confirm hypotheses, but it cannot provide meaning. Accessing your intuition is extremely important, especially in today's world. We're bombarded with the latest health products, predatory marketing practices and are overloaded with information. Just open your Instagram feed and you'll see how overstimulating, and often contradicting, the information we receive is. With a proper alignment with your intuition, you'll be able to sense when something is off, even without understanding something from an intellectual level.
Take slimming teas as an example. While some teas may help stabilize blood sugar levels and can stimulate the metabolism to some degree, it's unlikely drinking tea without making necessary lifestyle changes will lead to reduction in size. Unfortunately, many of us fall for these gimmicks when we see our favorite, seemingly-glamorous influencers promoting these products. If we were to free blockages between us and our intuition, we would be able to fly our red flags and immediately reject products with such preposterous claims.
While our intuition can help us from falling prey to scheming influencers, it must be kept in balance. What helps keep intuition in balance? Logic and reasoning. Unfortunately, our intuition can elicit rash decisions that can harm us and others due to our erroneous biases. We may, for example, decide to hire the older candidate because 'he's got more experience' and reject the younger recent grad. This is an example of an implicit bias, and it may, in this example, end up hurting the company: The younger, recent grad may actually be more skillful and sharper. She may generate more ideas and have a warmer disposition. She was the right fit for the job, but unfortunately the hiring manager's intuition was left unchecked and she made a poor choice based on her prejudices.
So while intuition can help us make decisions from a feelings-level, these gut-decisions must be balanced by assessing them with the analytical mind. In the mantras within this guide, you'll learn to trust your intuition while retaining a healthy amount of skepticism. The goal is to help ground you and reach a sense of moderation.
