This dictionary seeks to fill the need for a multi-lingual reference work for information tehnology and office automation in the integrating European market. It is the book form of a terminological database which was compiled within the frame of an ESPRIT project. The dictionary contains about 2300 terms of the special language domain of information technology with a particular focus on the terminology of communication systems and office automation. Each term is listed in six languages: English, German, French, Italian, Spanish and Dutch. In addition to the different languages, definitions are included in English for some of the more common terms, as well as frequently-used abbreviations and acronyms; synonyms are indicated by cross-references. The terms are listed in alphabetical order, the equivalents in the other languages, the definitions, abbreviations, acronyms and synonym indications are listed behind the English term to which they belong. With the help of cross-references existing synonyms are indicated for each entry. Separate indices exist for each of the other languages and for the abbreviations, making the dictionary suitable for diverse multilingual purposes.;The material was in part collected by interviewing experts in their native languages, so making it possible to include recent terminology, keeping track of the fast development in this special field. The extensive coverage of recent terms, abbreviations, acronyms and synonyms in six languages makes the dictionary especially useful for organizations which are active in a multinational and multilingual environment.
