Publisher's Synopsis

This book demystifies the electrophysiologic study of those who deal with cardiac arrhythmia patients, and who are often in the position for referring patients for this procedure. Part I explores the basic principles underlying disorders of the heart rhythm. Part II emphasizes the effectiveness of electrophysiologic testing, and clarifies its role in the evaluation and treatment of cardiac arrythmias, and in the prevention of sudden cardiac death. The major changes in this new edition include extensive revision in two areas: the remarkable advancement and growth of transcatheter ablation in the last few years; and the significant changes in thought in the treatment of ventricular arrhythmias. In addition, the second edition includes a new chapter on the use of EP testing in the evaluation of syncope. This discusses the indications for EP testing in patients with syncope, as well as tilt table testing for these patients. The author notes that this latter technique has fallen under the purview of electrophysiologists, and is most often carried our in electrophysiology labs in conjunction with invasive EP testing.
