Publisher's Synopsis
This volume is concerned with the choice between computer hardware and software in the implementation of functions in real time digital processing equipment. The functions of interest range in complexity from simple digital or analogue data transformations to the management of large amounts of recursive data in high speed signal processing installations. Security systems, image processing, digital control systems, microprocessor-based instrumentation and electrical power supply are all application areas in which this choice is of importance to the success of the project.;The author proposes design criteria which are suitable for the task of optimizing the balance between hardware and software. These criteria are presented and applied to typical examples in non-technical language.
