Publisher's Synopsis
In this account of elastohydrodynamic lubrication (ehl), a research worker in the field explains the subject both theoretically and experimentally.;Here are the results of research over the last 30 years and the author's explanation of the theory and principles of ehl is applied to a wide range of engineering, with physical explanations wherever possible. Throughout the text there is emphasis on the significance of dimensionless groups in describing ehl behaviour.;Many of the experiments described were carried out at the Imperial College Lubrication Laboratory, where the application of interferometry (a means of measuring the elastohydrodynamic film thickness) was pioneered.
