Publisher's Synopsis
After nearly forty-five years of close relationship with the ancient science of life, today at the evening of life, when I look backward, I feel that there is still remaining much to learn. Especially when we observe the spread of different shades of attributes and the various physio-pathological combinations that result from the variations in the constitution of basic five elements, we become astonished by the gravity of the information available in Ayurveda. Since ancient times, the Rishis or Sages have offered us a repository or mine of knowledge, and it is a mind numbing picture that we are running behind the mirage or illusion of Western culture. This book mainly offers the info related with the concepts of qualities and how these attributes are labelled on different entities. We can perceive this book as an effort towards the understanding of the complexity of the wisdom available in the verses of ancient manuscripts. One should not think that this is only for the Undergraduate and Post graduate students of Ayurveda. As we are aware of the fact that appropriate applications of the attributes of any entity in the treatment, is the key for the cure of disease and improvement of patients health. So for those who are craving for more and more information about the traits, it seems that this book will provide a new way of thinking about the manifestation of qualities. It is well established in the ancient texts that the qualities which are a integral part of the different tissues in the body, are nourished by the same attributes, which are also existent in the food and drugs. Since ages food and herbo-mineral medicines are being used successfully for the sustenance of health. How the ancestors defined the qualities of these substances, is a million dollar question. Understanding the parameters for identification and labeling of a particular attribute on an entity, is the need of the time for the Ayurvedic fraternity. Considering the difficulties to which the Ayurvedic scholars face, while considering the qualities of an entity, it is necessary that some time and efforts should be reserved for the resolution of this painstaking work.We know that functions are predictable only by understanding the qualities and as qualities always reside in the entity, this knowledge helps us to considerate the entity. In this book, I have scrutinized the Laghu quality with different angles, and have tried to establish some of the parameters for it. This approach will help us to define the exact nature of the laghutva in an entity. For establishment of these parameters, I have submitted data from shuka, Shimbi and maansa varga of Vagbhatta, along with some molecular information from modern molecular biology. Side by side, I have also revealed the effects of desh on the shuka-shimbi-maansa vargiya entities and the role of Agni mahabhuta in manifestation of Laghutva in the entities. This is the first part of the series, which pursues with the manifestation of qualities, and in this part I have mainly dealt with the Glycine and Alanine amino acids. As mentioned in this book, there are some more amino acids, which have also a precise and definite role in the manifestation of Laghutva in the entity, which will be discussed in details in the second part of this series.I hope that from this model of reviewing any quality, Ayurvedic physicians and scholars can definitely improve their vision and rational approach regarding the concepts of labeling Laghu quality on an entity.
