Upon his return from the battle of Waterloo, the soldier Rider Sandman, agrees to gather evidence to prove the guilt of the painter Charles Corday in the death of a young aristocrat. Everything is ready to execute him, but in his investigation Sandman discovers the innocence of the painter and has very little time to try to prove it.
