A.D. 55:a series of bloody crimes shakes Rome: in recent months several bodies have appeared atrociously dismembered on the streets of the city. The most surprising thing is that the human remains are found mixed with bones and animal skins. Is it some macabre revenge or the work of a troubled mind? In the flamboyant and conspiracy-filled atmosphere of Nero's reign, an idealistic Praetorian, a disenchanted former guard and a corrupt policeman join forces to try to uncover the origin of these brutal murders that are linked to Ovid's metamorphoses. As fear grows among the city's inhabitants, the investigations will lead the three men to the court of Nero, whose power struggles, in their increasingly chaotic drift, will endanger not only the terrified Romans, but the entire Empire.
