Publisher's Synopsis

INTRODUCTION I had two ambitions as a youngster. One, to play in goal for Manchester United, the other to open the batting for Lancashire. Although I did not come near to either, writing about both clubs has given me great pleasure over the years. Eddie Colman played for United, and like myself, came from the dock area of Salford. He was a marvellous artist, a classy wing half who complimented the great Duncan Edwards so well. Surely an England call up was round the corner, perhaps the World Cup of 1958? Sadly, four months before that competition, Eddie was taken from us in the Munich Air Crash. I hope this book rekindles memories, or introduces people to a tragically short career. My own Salford memories, and acknowledgement of another Salfordian, Geoff Bent, who also was killed at Munich, complete 'A Salford Lad'
