Publisher's Synopsis
At a time when increasing pressures are being placed on health care budgets; when provider units are confronted with mounting financial pressures to meet targets; when purchasing agencies are faced with increasing expectations from their residents and there is limited scope for additional resources to be channelled into health care, there is an even greater need to ensure that resources available for health care are utilised in order to maximise the benefits for society. - - This book provides a framework for assessing the relative efficiency of health promotion compared with other health care activities and the extent to which health promotion activities themselves are efficient. It establishes the basis for economic evaluations in health promotion and explores the methodological issues of relevance to health promotion agencies in formulating future strategies. Reference is made to published studies, drawn from a number of health promotion areas, in order to consider the direction of future developments in health promotion.
