Aimed particularly at project managers in the third world who have a forestry or agricultural background, the book provides ideas, guidelines and practical advice to aid them in the quest for the construction of effective roads which meet the needs of commercial projects.;The book aims to provide a practical understanding of the materials and the tools with which roads, bridges and culverts are built and emphasizes the necessity of matching the roads to the vehicles that use them. Attention is also drawn to the need for an awareness of the effects of weather in order to ameliorate damage or gain advantage from either wet or dry spells. Although this is a technical manual, only the simplest mathematical formulae are used and the text includes an extensive range of photographs.
