In the beginning of the second century C.E., false teachings had arisen to twist the Christian truth of Jesus and the apostles of the first century. These men's writings and example deliver an insight into the religious environment of their day. The apologists defended the teachings and practices of orthodox Christians. Moreover, for professing true Christianity, many were put to death rather than deny Jesus Christ. Particularly striking was their love for truth and their bold witnessing in spite of the persecution. Between the delightfully illustrated covers, Christian Publishing House has presented fourteen Apostolic, Apologist and Church Fathers from Polycarp, a student of the apostle John in the late first century, to Jerome in the fourth century. It is to these eminent scholars, whose occupations covered all walks of life: shepherd, mathematician, lawyer, and bishop, that we owe, among other things, the divine compilation of our Bible canon today. We are so fortunate to have the teachings of these eminent scholars whose writings have been of interest to genuine Christians throughout the last 2,000 years, as well as in our modern age.
