Publisher's Synopsis
EACH YEAR AN ANTHEM by James Goertel brings together poems from 2008 through 2012 and is his poetry debut. The book is broken into two unique collections. The first, from 2012 and entitled 'Songs for a Son, ' is an unflinchingly honest and moving poetic suite to his young son. Goertel crafts his poems in the form of an ongoing correspondence, one that simultaneously acts as love song, cautionary tale, and family history. The second section of EACH YEAR AN ANTHEM is dedicated to an eclectic assemblage of Goertel's poetry from 2008 to 2011. Entitled 'Exiles and Effigies, ' this collection showcases the unique and universal themes of his work - as poignant as they are powerful
