Publisher's Synopsis

Two trail orphans are allied with a black bounty huner and a eye-less man to follow a murderer and retrieve precious things. Doreen and her little brother Jake are rescued from an loutlaw band by Ten, a bounty man in buckskins and feathers. Ten was raised by Indians and rides an awe-inspiring horse, "Great Shakes." Their temporary home with Mrs. Dilsey has been ravaged and their guardian killed. All this was done by Cut. The children hope they have found a new protector in Ten, but he is a hunter of men and has no room in his narrow life for children. He proposes to drop them off with another prairie family. Before that can happen, Billy stumbles into their camp. He seems to magically appear from the empty prairie. He is a strange, little man dressed in city clothes and wearing a bandana over his eyes. Billy has hypnotic powers and he hires Ten to track down Cut and retreive valuable goods--his eyes! To Ten's surprise Billy uses his magic to also seduce the children to follow along, and this odd little band blazes a twisted and dangerous trail into Indian Territory and "the place of power" where Cut is going to change his eyes for Billy's. Ahead of them awaits the murderous and powerful Cut. Behind them is the thundering outlaw band. This is a story of magic and adventure set in the still-untamed Great Plains. There is a treacherous villain, shoot-outs, desperate escapes, fevered chases and a final test of loyalty and friendship.
