Publisher's Synopsis
This book presents a thoughtful angle on memorizing the single digit math facts from 6 times 4 to 9 times 9 which we are all expected to have on the tip of our tongues all of our lives. Memorizing 100 unassociated numbers in a giant Times Table can be a mind boggling job. In fact it might best be done in phases. The first phase, learning the 2xs, 3xs, 4xs and 5xs is nicely presented pictorially. But that is impractical with the higher numbers, the 6xs, 7xs, 8xs and 9xs. And people are not robots; they cannot simply be programmed in a vacuum; but most people can train themselves to remember by association. So this book provides real life scenarios that evolve from snappy rhymes into entertaining word problems. In these, the numbers that are the factors and answers, can be mentally attached to pictures, conjured up from the words. Just provide a time and a place to mentally concentrate in quiet and this book can be the tool that finally lets the learner clinch this task. Basically it walks you through reading aloud, writing and hearing the stark single digit math facts over and over. Unlike other workbooks that require one to constantly flip to another page or diagram and look up the answer; this one uses a positive approach by providing the answer with the factors from the get go. If flash cards or fast-paced songs just instill a negative uneasiness and aversion to math in general, then the SIX STEP TECHNIQUE outlined on page 9 of the book may just do the job. However, no book like this was available to the public even after the Common Core set of Concepts was enacted. And, while how the mind works, is the subject of increasing scientific research, the method used in this book was newly presented in a newsletter in September of 2017 titled Mind, Mood and Memory as a tried and true way to remember almost anything. So the full range of learners from third graders to special ed students to adults reviewing multiplication are encouraged to try anew this back-to-basics method!
