Publisher's Synopsis
Arthur Woods directs this 1930s British drama starring Shakespearean actor Matheson Lang as legendary English sailor Francis Drake. Though Drake is considered a hero in England, in Spanish folklore he is thought of as a pirate and critics of the seafarer point to his association with slavery and massacres. The film looks at a number of aspects of Drake's life, from his romantic entanglements at the court of Queen Elizabeth (Athene Seyler) to his circumnavigation of the globe and victory over the Spanish Armada.
