It chronicles the survivors of a devastating Gulf of Mexico hurricane on October 1, 1893 that literally wiped out Cheniere Caminada and Grand Isle Louisiana. Mostly immigrant fishermen with large family’s eked subsistence living from the sea before the storm struck. More than 790 souls, mostly women and children died. But determined survivors stood fast and became the catalyst for a massive fishing industry. This is their story, in their own words; it had to be told!
