This book is about dogs living in the countryside with their owners. It describes the main character Retrie, a Golden Retriever, and his friends with whom he shares their adventures, such as the rescue of a kitten, the defence of a boy from a suspicious man, the saving of kids who steal a boat and capsize it. The book mentions Newfoundland's brave adventures through his stories about his life in Australia: meeting kangaroos and snakes. Sharpei, one of the protagonist's friends, stops a car when his owner faints, thus calling for help. There is also described other dogs' relationships, friendship and loyalty. All the stories contain a great dose of truth and many funny situations.
