This research note contains a number of papers originally designed at the 1988 Workshop on Distributed Artificial Intelligence (DAI). The papers describe significant research in this area and present results that have not appeared elsewhere.;DAI is concerned with the co-operative solution of problems by a decentralized group of agents. The agents may range from simple processing elements to complex entities exhibiting rational behaviour.;The papers describe architectures and languages for achieving co-operative problem solving in a distributed environment, and include several successful applications of DAI in manufacturing, information retrieval, and distributed sensing.
