Publisher's Synopsis
Disinfibulation is a collection of poems emanating from a profoundly personal experience of womanhood, both the author's own and those of the women around her. The tone of the poems vacillates from good-humoured and frothy, to austere and poignant, to downright acerbic and mocking. The title of the book 'Disinfibulation' is a neologism by addition of the prefix 'dis-' to the word 'infibulation' (which is a barbaric practice of female genital mutilation), and hence signifying a metaphoric un-stitching of the lips to enunciate the experience of womanhood.
