In this book, you will discover eight days walking around the island dispensing with much knowledge and history about the island that in the past was sued to exile political and criminal prisoners. For example, Nichiren a controversial religious leader was exiled on Sado-thus there are some important Nichiren Buddhist temples on the island that draws pilgrims of the faith. Another famous exile was Zeami a famous Noh actor and playwright who fell out of favor, as a result, there are many Noh stages scattered throughout the island today a well. In addition, there was a gold boom on the island and it was mined up until the second war, but the most productive time was during the Meiji era. In later times, in the 70s an entrepreneur called Tagayasu Den came to the island and formed a traditional drum company called Ondekoza, vodka was the island dialect for "Demon Drum" and this group later mutated into the world-famous Kodo drum troupe that still lives on the island and tours internationally. Waycott is an Englishman, and although he never explicitly states it-it seems he must have been inspired by fellow Englishman Alan Booth's walk from Hokkaido to Kyushu in The Roads to Sato.
