Publisher's Synopsis
Respiratory related mishaps of the airway are a major cause of patient risk. Studies in the US show that in difficult intubation cases, approximately 40 per cent result in death, 20 per cent result in brain damage, and 40 per cent result in high morbidity trauma. Difficult airway patients are those who have a past history of traumatic or failed endotracheal intubation or endoscopy. Viewers of this programme should be able to handle diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of airway problems, reassess goals in consideration of patient care, and use new fibre-optic equipment properly.
