Excerpt from Die Gedichte des Q. Horatius Flaccus: Kommentar
Das an Maecenas gerichtete erste Gedicht ist die Widmung (npéloyog), wie c. III, 30 der éau'loyog, der im Jahre 24 a. Chr. Zusammen herausgegebenen drei ersten Bücher der carmina. Das Gedicht gliedert sich: 2 6 (4] 2) 6 (2 +4) 4 4 6 6 2. Die zwei Verse am Anfang und Schluß enthalten Anrede und Wunsch; die mittleren zählen die mannigfaltigen Bestrebungen der Menschen auf nach Ehre (griechischer und römischer, idealer und mate rieller), nach Grundbesitz (großem und ererbtem kleinem), nach Reichtum, behaglichem Genuß, Krieg und Jagd, Kunst und Wissenschaft.
