He was a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, a fellow of the American Institute of Architects, a member of the Society Of American Etchers and of the British Society Of Etchers. In 1928 he succeeded Elihu Root as president of the Century Association and W. R. Mead as president of the American Academy in Rome.
