Carlo d'angiò dovendo partire dal Regno per portarsi in Borgogna, luogo stabilito per combattersi il duello tra lui e Pietro re di Aragona, nel giorno 12 di gennaio del 1283 creò il Principe di Salerno suo primogenito in Vicario Generale del Regno, il quale governò il Reame da quel di fino al 5 di giu gno dell' anno 1284, giorno in cui fu fatto prigioniero da Rug giero di Lauria.
