For fear of his philandering ways coming to the attention of his rapier-tongued wife, Ralph Jackson is blackmailed into offering his mistress's niece, Amy, a job at his posh West London jeweller's. Amy finds the work congenical but the snobbery of the senior Jacksons is difficuly to bear. Soon Ralph's handsome son Clifford realises she has grown into a spirited beauty and secretly begins to pay court to her. One thing inevitably leads to another and weak-willed Clifford is quite happy to leave Amy holding the baby. However George, Amy's father, has a powerful influence over Ralph. An amazed Amy finds herself Mrs Clifford Jackson, but even love and gratitude do not blind her to her husband's weaknesses, and when tragedy strikes she is faced with some difficult choices . . .
