Publisher's Synopsis
Charlotte, North Carolina. An underground chamber is exposed in a dilapidated house... Called to the scene is forensic anthropologist Dr Temperance Brennan. In the cellar, Tempe finds a ritualistic display: slain chickens and a goat - and a skull on a pedestal, the lower jaw missing, the empty orbits staring back at her. Two cauldrons stand nearby, beads and antlers suspended overhead. The skull is that of a young, black female - but how did she die, and when? Then another body is uncovered - a headless corpse, the torso carved with satanic symbols. Citizen vigilantes blame devil-worshippers and begin a witch-hunt, intent on revenge. Tempe makes another chilling discovery, but she couldn't have predicted the shocking secrets it would uncover or the danger she is up against...
