Publisher's Synopsis
The external and self-images designed in German-language and Polish literature allow conclusions to be drawn about cultural identity as well as existing stereotypes. For the past few decades, it can be assumed that there has been a lasting change in German-Polish relations. As a result, existing stereotypes have been broken down. This is connected with a plea for openness towards others, their values and their culture. The change of perspective was possible not least because it was remembered and forgotten in a special way. In addition, the willingness to "look at the other side with their own eyes" (Uwe Johnson) has increased. The contributions show that in this process literature as well as film productions, theater or the visual arts played a role that should not be underestimated, also and especially by making 'disturbing experiences' the subject of the presentation.
