Publisher's Synopsis

This publication presents the methods for the design of ships' structures. These methods are applicable to any medium or large vessel designed by direct calculation, as well as to the warship hulls on which the book was originally based, as these are invariably designed without recourse to classification society rules. Taking as its starting point an assumed functional specification, it shows how a structure can be created to meet this requirement.;Means of estimating consistent values of loads and strength are developed and the process is illustrated by an example that evolves through a number of chapters. Although designs will obviously vary in practice and individual designers will have their own criteria for their work this publication nevertheless makes numerous recommendations for standards that might be adopted. An extensive bibliography is also included to guide users to the appropriate detailed analytical methods to be found in other publications.
