However, the consequences of his actions lead to tragedy and he is ultimately saved by the power of love.First performed in Berlin in 1821, ""Der Freischutz"" quickly became a popular and influential work in the German operatic tradition. It is known for its innovative use of orchestration, including the use of horns and other woodwind instruments to create a haunting and atmospheric sound.
