A succession of sneak attacks begin to accumulate, and Glais is forced to question whom he can trust. Spies and sabotage thrive within the castle and his homeland. With every passing incident, it becomes evident that these attacks and disappearances are connected, but who is the source of this new nightmare?
Evangeline does not know and does not care too. It has been only a year since her marriage to Prince Glais, and already people gossip about why she has failed to produce an heir. The rumours are attacking her heritage, her home, and her life. There appears to be a plot that could lead to assassination should the opportunity arise. According to sources, the threat against her was made by a person close to Evangeline, someone who was meant to be protecting her.
All the while, Earl Barret grows increasingly paranoid about his northern neighbours. His greatest supporter appears to be turning against him, and the fearless and mythical King of Braykith, Quintus, may soon be forced to draw his sword against his friend should Earl Barret's wild threats continue.
