Publisher's Synopsis

Ancient Greece, the land of the gods and goddesses, was filled with beautiful people and heavenly-looking youths. Greece was the cultural center of Europe and one of the most forward-thinking societies on Earth. Delphi was the place to be when it came to the mysteries of the ancient world. It underwent several stages of development and was the object of interest for many conquering armies. They wanted to be the leaders of such a sacred space where the great oracle known as the Pythia resided and spread the wisdom of the gods. Over several thousand years, the area was subject to attacks, to natural phenomena like earthquakes or fires, and was the site of three Sacred Wars.
In the end, Delphi ceased to exist because of the dawn of Christianity. Its pagan ways were considered archaic until the late nineteenth century, when a resurgence in interest meant that archaeologists across the globe began to recognize the importance of ancient sites.
