These qualitative definitions are impor tant and the student should understand the exact meaning of the terms; but in general they do not present great difficulties. The meaning Of many such terms is known to every one, and it seems hardly worth while to define them. They are given only where they appear necessary as connecting links. NO attempt has been made to define such words as matter, substance, body, pressure.
