The Adventures of Dee-Jan and Mocka-la-doo (Book One) is the first in a series of books about the adventures of a 14 year old, Hill Tribe Mahout.;Dee-Jan Visits His Grandfather tells the story of the boy and his elephant trekking through the jungle in search of his Grandfathers village. But when Dee Jan stops for a rest and then falls asleep, Mocka-la-doo (his elephant) wanders off and Dee-Jan can't find him when he wakes up.;Unbeknown to Dee-Jan, his best friend follows him and when he sees Dee-Jan making camp by a river, plays a practical joke on him which ends with both boys falling in the river.;During the night, the boys hear noises from the jungle and have a Ghostly encounter. Forced to leave their shelter to investigate, the boys find themselves reunited with Mocka-La-Doo.;Continuing their journey, the boys overcome many obstacles including waterfalls that the elephant must climb, before eventually finding the village where Dee-Jan meets his Grandfather. Mocka-la-doo also meets his mother, Maboo-Maa, who belongs to Dee-Jan's Grandfather. There is a wonderful reunion both for the boy and his elephant and the book ends happily.;The book is illustrated throughout with colour photographs of the Mahout and his elephant during the adventure and, based on the real-lives of Hill Tribe people living in primitive conditions, will be both entertaining and educational to children of most age groups.;The book is aimed at 7 to 11 year old children but is of interest to all age groups and can also be read to younger children, as a bedtime story.
