Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from Deanery of Newcastle, Betley Parish Register, 1538-1812

William Browne must have been responsible for beginning the Parish Register in November, 1538, immediately after it was first ordered by the King and his despotic Minister, Thomas Cromwell. It will be noticed that it is described as the Register of our Lord the King and not as a Church Register. The title is the same at Audley.
