The book examines a central section of the land allocation texts in the second part of the Old Testament book of Joshua (Chapters 13-19) and interprets the locations mentioned in Joshua 18: 1-20 in a historical-topographical and literary-topographical perspective. While Joshua 18: 1-10 marked the transition from the desert migration period to sedentary life in Canaan by moving to Shiloh, Joshua 18: 11-20 describes the "border area" of the tribe of Benjamin. The landscape information that is frequently encountered indicates that a clear boundary line is not assumed, as was usually assumed in older research, but that it is a description of a broader gap between larger territorial units in the north and south.
