In seinem Begriffe der Gottheit lehnt sich Philo, so weit es ihm dem strenggläubigen Israeliten möglich war, zumeist an die Stoiker an, zumal in der Idee jener einen, alles umfassenden Gewalt, die durch Macht, aber noch mehr durch Güte sich darstellt. Von ihr strahlen gleichsam alle Kräfte aus, die wieder in der einen Hauptkraft, dem Logos, concentriert sind; diesen nennt er dann auch ab wechselnd: Vermittler zwischen Gott und der Welt, Weisheit und Vernunft Gottes, copici, äö'{o; u. S. W. Die Ver mittlung zwischen Gott und. Der Welt geschieht ihm zunächst durch den Logos. Die in seinem System eine so grosse Rolle spielenden Mittelwesen werden theils als jene Kräfte, theils als Trabanten und Diener im eigentlichsten Sinne auf gefasst und hiernach bald schlechthin Kräfte, bald Dämonen oder Engel genannt.
