Dante was steeped in the Bible and self-consciously drew on the rich repository of images belonging to the Biblical prophetic tradition. But he also drew on other images not found in the Bible, nor available in any other external sources during his lifetime. These images presented themselves to Dante's inner visionary eye, and reveal the depth of his attunement to the archetype of the divine feminine.
