In the Commedia everything is focused on love divine, creator of the universe. In the canto of Paolo and Francesca, Dante attributes his own feelings and reflections to the passion of love: Francesca and Paolo are overwhelmed by the kind of love that, in Francesca's words, is a cry reiterated three times at the beginning of three tercets. That loving passion for which one could die, could kill or be killed.
