Wayne D'Arville is a cruel and ruthless playboy. Having finished his studies in Paris, he returns home to Monte Carlo where he swiftly impregnates the innocent and beautiful housemaid Rosita before casting her aside.
Wayne then moves to England hoping to find a wife of good breeding to restore his standing in society. There he meets the gentle and naive Veronica Coltrane who seems the answer to his prayers. But soon Wayne slips back to his old ways, leaving Veronica pregnant and imprisoned, having framed her for his own crimes.
Now years later, unable to produce an heir with the English wife he no longer loves, Wayne is desperate to seek out the two illegitimate children he had callously abandoned.
