Il est certain qu'en admettant sa division des trois nuances s�cu laires (et nous la croyons fort contestable), ces nuances se mari� rent et se confondirent toujours, de telle sorte qu'aucune ne demen ra �trang�re 'a l'une des trois �poques d�sign�es. Que la passion, si l'on veut, soit l'apanage de notre si�cle, s'ensuit - ii qu'il ne sache que par tradition ce que c'est que coquetterie et galanterie? S'en suit - il qu'il soit r�duit � en demander des nouvelles aux deux sie cles pr�c�dents, et � s'en rapporter sur ce point historique a l'auto rit� de leurs doctrines et de leurs souvenirs?
