Publisher's Synopsis

Recognising that history repeats itself, in the field of peace it is easier and more frequent to see the transition from periods of tension to periods of apparent tranquillity. Thus, in times of escalating violence and extremism in human relations in society, in addition to international conflicts, we propose a reflection on the culture of peace from three perspectives moderated by education: a) moving from the myopic vision of peace to the culture of peace system; b) in the face of the new information revolution, analysing the duty to delimit freedom of communication by the indicators of the culture of peace; and c) the values of education in the context of the culture of peace as an instrument for containing the extremism stimulated by the new nationalisms. Furthermore, the time is ripe for reflection on the culture of peace system as proposed by the international community and systematised by the United Nations, from the declaration and programme on the Culture of Peace at the turn of the century to the current Agenda for Peace in line with the collective interest of progress for humanity through the pursuit of sustainable development with respect for human rights and inspired by permanent and lasting peace. The thoughtful reader should realise that this is a work for reflection on the culture of peace system developed to replace the culture of violence. It is therefore intended to be descriptive about the theoretical and scientific elements, but also critical and propositional about the process of changing social action that contributes to the built of awareness for a social life in lasting and permanent peace with full enjoyment of human rights and access to at least the primary social goods. Happy reading!
