This book is about my academic career as an obstetrician and gynecologist and my decision at the age of 55 to retire from that career and to jump into the unknown. I tell the reader about my intermittent work abroad and how I accomplished this. The book was published in 2012 as an ebook available for free downloading. It has had more that 3000 downloads and some very good reviews with an average of 4 stars. The book is written as a series of loosely connected anecdotes, medical and non medical, funny and not so funny. I will convey the excitement and satisfaction of this decision. The hope is that the book will inspire others to make the jump and may be even to write their own story.The title and the content of the book seem to lean toward readers with medical back ground and jobs. However I hope that non medical readers with jobs in many other fields, will also be inspired by reading the book.; Inspired into venturing off the beaten path when their life has reached the stage that they are ready to make that jump, for what ever reason. I now have decided to republish an updated version of the book in paperback form. I have done this because 6 years have gone by since the first publication of the e version. Since then I have stopped clinical practice While the book needed updating, I have added a number of interesting and pertinent anecdotes and have illustrated the text with many pertinent photographs. The other reason is to attempt to make the book more widely available in the hope to appeal to professionals in many other fields who may be looking for similar opportunities to do something different with their career.
