Publisher's Synopsis
"Court Welfare in Action" is based on the first, large scale systematic study of the work of court welfare officers in England and Wales. It offers a detailed analysis of the development of the policy, legal and practice contexts of court welfare work this century and the discourse surrounding it. Drawing on data gathered in the course of researching six probation areas in England and Wales, the authors go on to describe the detail of court welfare officers' practice, illustrating the many tensions and ambiguities inherent in this difficult area of social work practice.
