Publisher's Synopsis
When cousins Jo Mason and Phyl Jennings decide to become Lyons Corner House waitresses, or 'Nippies', they are transported to the wonderful dining-rooms of Lyons, Marble Arch, and they swap their old overalls for the smart uniforms of the Corner House girls. Although being a Nippy involves hard work, spotless appearance and serving hundreds of diners every hour, Jo and Phyl settle in easily, making friends with both customers and waitresses. There is romance too, but as the Second World War becomes inevitable, friends and lovers face an uncertain future.
