Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from Contributions Towards a Fauna and Flora of the County of Cork, Read at the Meeting of the British Association Held at Cork, in the Year 1843: The Vertebrata by Dr. Harvey; The Mollusca, Crustacea and Echinodermata by J. D. Humphreys; The Flora by Dr. Power

T HE present, so far as I am aware, is the first Catalogue of the Vertebrated Animals of the County of Cork which has been published. It was originally prepared in a tabular form, somewhat on the plan of Mr. Thompson's report on the Fauna of Ireland; but as its present shape seems best adapted for this little publication, I have considered it sufficient to give the following summary of the number of species in each class which have been found in the County, as compared with those of Great Britain and Ireland respectively. Mammalia. Birds Reptiles. Amphibia. Fishes. Total.

Great Britain 67. 301. 8. 7. 236. 619. Ireland 31. 238. 2. 5. 159. 435. Cork 24. 167. L. L. 95. 228.
