Publisher's Synopsis
Just as the human body needs to ingest food and water to live and thrive, so the Bible teaches that spiritual feeding is essential for salvation and life. "The one who feeds on me will live because of me" (John 6:57). Spiritual malnourishment results from confessing Jesus without feeding on Jesus. "Unless you eat the flesh of the son of man and drink his blood you have no life in you" (John 6:53). Jesus was broken and poured to be our nourishment, "I am the living bread. . . this bread is my flesh which I give for the life of the world" (John 6:51). Consistent devotional feeding on the broken and poured out Jesus nourishes internal formation of the life of Christ, "Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I IN HIM" - John 6:56. Scriptural engagement with the psalms of David provides an instructive example for feeding on Jesus that leads to spiritual growth and transformation. The process of feeding on Jesus results in spiritual formation of the life of Christ within a believer that overflows in ministry to one another and mission to the world.
