Publisher's Synopsis
We share a revised translation of the original work.
Confessions is a book in which Saint Augustine wrote about his sinful youth and how he converted to Christianity. It is widely accepted as the first Western autobiography ever written, and it became a model for other Christian authors for centuries to come. It is not a complete autobiography as it was written after the first 40 years of his life and he lived to be 76, during which time he produced other important works, including The City of God. Still, it provides great insight into the evolution of his thinking in his early years. The book is a finished work of philosophy and also an important contribution to theology.
