Publisher's Synopsis
Ireland in 1645 is a Kingdom on the edge. A precarious ceasefire is in place and a treaty between the Irish Catholic Confederation and King Charles is being finalised. When a Spanish friar in the entourage of Giovanni Battista Rinuccini, newly-arrive papal nuncio, is brutally murdered in Kilkenny, the city's Under Sheriff, Walter Archer, is called to investigate. But the circumstances surrounding the friar's death may have far reaching consequences, for the treaty negotiations and the very future of the Kingdom itself.
